How to Waterless Car Wash

Clean, polish and protect your car without a hose: spray on Wash Wax ALL, wipe with a damp towel, dry with a dry towel.

  • 3 products needed
  • Video guide

Wash Wax ALL lets you clean, polish, and protect your car without a hose, using nothing more than spray, a damp microfiber, and a dry microfiber. This is the hand-application method for cars. Also see How to Use the Wash Wax Mop.

The three-step method

1. Spray on 2. Damp towel 3. Dry towel

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Fold some towels in half twice to form a square, wet them with water or Wash Wax ALL, and wring them out so they are only damp. Fold some dry towels the same way and have them available. (See Note: Towels)
  2. Start at the highest point of the car. Clean upwind of the dirty areas so the spray mist only lands on areas that have not been cleaned.
  3. Spray an area you can comfortably clean before the Wash Wax ALL dries, approximately 2 ft. by 4 ft. or smaller.
  4. Wipe the area you just sprayed with the damp towel. Don't skip this step: the damp towel keeps the dirt wet so it isn't dragged across your finish.
  5. Dry the area with a dry towel before the Wash Wax ALL dries.
  6. Continue steps 3 through 5 for the rest of the car, unfolding and re-folding the towels to expose new clean sides.
  7. Work your way down to the lowest portions of the car. We recommend cleaning the windows last.
  8. The process is the same throughout the car: spray on and wipe off. Replace the towels as they become dirty. For hard to reach areas, use the Wash Wax Mop.
  9. For dried-on bugs, pre-spray the area with Wash Wax ALL (Blue) and let it soak for 5–10 minutes. Re-spray and use the Aero Scrubber to break up the bugs, then dry and clean the area before the Wash Wax ALL dries.

Note: Towels

  • Always use the damp towel. It is not thirsty, so the dirt stays wet all the way into the towel. Skip it, and a dry towel can drag dry dirt across your finish.
  • If spot cleaning, one towel is usually enough. Use one side to clean and one side to dry. Dampen the cleaning side with a few sprays of Wash Wax ALL first.
  • Use only good quality soft absorbent microfiber or cotton towels.
  • Wash your towels regularly, inspect them for foreign materials, and store them in a sealed container or bag, free of any dirt.

Getting the most out of your towels

The towel you use to apply the Wash Wax ALL gets dirty first. When you are ready to replace it, replace it with the drying towel. It will already be slightly damp, so there is no need to dampen it with water or prime it with Wash Wax ALL. Use this procedure with the Wash Wax Mop too.

Large vehicles & working in heat

  • For large vehicles such as trucks, vans, limos, and SUVs, consider the Wash Wax Mop.
  • If the air or surface is hot, clean smaller areas at a time. If it is cool and humid, you can clean larger areas. Dry the Wash Wax ALL before it dries on its own to avoid streaking.
  • On hot surfaces, use a damp towel in Step 4 and do smaller areas at a time.

When to use Wash ALL Degreaser (Red) or Belly Soap (Purple)

Wash Wax ALL (Blue) works for most car surfaces and windows. For wheels, wheel wells, tires, and the engine compartment, you may need Wash ALL Degreaser or, in extreme cases, Belly Soap. For extra cleaning power, also use the Aero Scrubber. Afterward, follow up with Wash Wax ALL (Blue) for maximum wax protection.
